Salinization occurring through irrigation on arable land has been a growing concern worldwide. This study aimed to evaluate the germination and initial development of common rue subjected to different saline concentrations. Two salts (sodium chloride and calcium chloride) and five saline concentrations (zero, -0.1, -0.2, -0.3, and -0.4 MPa) were utilized. Germination tests, first germination count, seedling length and dry weight were employed to assess seed responses to the studied variations. Based on the results, the excess of salt reduces the germination percentage and the initial development of common rue seedlings, regardless of the substance used for stress induction.

A preservação da qualidade das sementes, durante o período de armazenagem, não depende somente das condições de produção e de colheita, mas das condições de armazenamento e de manutenção adequada de estocagem do produto. Dessa forma, objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de variedades crioulas de milho, quando armazenadas em duas condições. Foram utilizados lotes de sementes de milho pertencentes às variedades Oito carreiras, Cabo roxo e Lombo baio. Os testes realizados foram testes de germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, teste de frio, envelhecimento acelerado e sanidade. Por meio dos resultados, foi possível concluir que a qualidade fisiológica das sementes de variedades crioulas diminuiu com o período de armazenamento. Os principais fungos encontrados nas sementes de milho, durante o armazenamento, foram os dos gêneros Aspergillus, Fusarium e Penicillium, os quais provocaram deterioração e redução da qualidade fisiológica. O armazenamento em saco de papel, à temperatura de 10 °C não evitou a deterioração das sementes de milho, mas foi mais eficiente na preservação da qualidade da semente em relação às embalagem plástica à temperatura ambiente.

The preservation of seed quality during the storage period depends not only on the conditions during production and harvesting but also on the storage and maintenance of appropriate storage product conditions. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the physiological and sanitary qualities of maize landrace seeds stored under two conditions. The maize seed batch varieties Oito carreiras, Cabo roxo and Lombo baio were used. Tests included germination, first count, cold test, accelerated aging and sanity. Based on the results it was concluded that the physiological quality of these seed varieties decreased with the storage period. The major fungi identified in the maize seeds during storage were from the genera Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium, which caused deterioration and reduction of the physiological quality. Storage using a paper bag at a temperature of 10 °C did not prevent the deterioration of maize seeds but was more effective at preserving the quality of the seed compared with a plastic bag at room temperature.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da luz, temperatura e estresse hídrico no potencial fisiológico de sementes de funcho. O experimento foi conduzido em duas etapas. Na etapa I, as sementes foram semeadas sobre papel nas temperaturas constantes de 20, 25, 30ºC e alternada de 20-30ºC na presença e ausência de luz. Na etapa II, as sementes foram colocadas sobre papel embebido em solução aquosa de polietileno glicol (PEG 6000) nos potenciais osmóticos correspondentes a zero; -0,05; -0,10; -0,15; -0,20; -0,25; -0,30MPa. O delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Conforme os resultados pode-se concluir que a germinação das sementes de funcho ocorre tanto na presença quanto na ausência de luz.. As sementes de funcho, germinam melhor nas temperaturas constantes de 20, 25 e e alternada de 20-30ºC e a temperatura de 30ºC não é adequada para o teste de germinação. A diminuição dos potenciais osmóticos com polietileno glicol 6000, a partir de -0,1MPa, reduz drasticamente a germinação e o vigor das sementes de funcho, sendo o vigor mais afetado que a germinação.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of light, temperature and hydric stress on the germination and vitality of fennel seeds.. First, the seeds were sowed on paper at constant temperatures of 20, 25, 30ºC or alternating temperatures of 20-30ºC in the presence or absence of light. In a second step, seeds were kept on paper in aqueous polyethylene glicol (PEG 6000) at the osmotic potentials equivalent to zero; -0,05; -0,10; -0,15; -0,20; -0,25;-0,30MPa. According to the results, it was possible to conclude that germination of fennel seeds occurred in presence or absence light. The fennel seeds germinated better at constant temperatures of 20 and 25ºC but 30ºC was not useful for the germination test. The decrease in the osmotic potentials reduced the germination and vigor of fennel seeds, and vigor was more affected than germination. The germination was drastically reduced, starting at -0,1 MPa for fennel when there was a decrease in the osmotic potentials with polyethylene glicol 6000.
